Critical Making Lab
The Critical Making Lab houses equipment, computers, and software to support creative and exploratory work with data visualization, data physicalization, critical making, and augmented/virtual reality. The CDS hosts events and activities that explore the physical and virtual materialization of information, including small-scale artisanal and traditional forms (textiles, paper) as well as data visualization, microcontrollers, and data physicalization. We’re particularly interested in exploring the critical implications of such manifestations: how to work with the edges of informational categories, how physical forms shape our interactions with information and reveal assumptions about narrative and sense-making. We offer workshops and informal get-togethers on several topics, and we welcome suggestions for additional programs!
For more information and community, we invite you to join the NULab’s Critical Making working group via the #critical-making channel in the NUDigital Slack.
