Policies and Information

The CDS space supports usage that is related related to research, teaching, and public engagement around digital scholarship in the humanities and social sciences, and in particular activities conducted by: CDS projects and partners, CDS itself, graduate students in the CDS community, and relevant groups in the library.

The kitchen and adjacent eating area are shared spaces for those affiliated with the CDS. We ask everyone to follow these guidelines so that we can all enjoy a clean and safe eating environment:

Use of Meeting and Open Spaces

As the CDS continues to expand its programs, we are beginning to make CDS spaces available for teaching. Space in the CDS is only available to courses that meet the mission of the CDS (i.e. involve digital scholarship). Requests for teaching space are approved based on availability and on how the course meeting time fits into the CDS event calendar (to ensure that CDS spaces remain available for presentations and other CDS activities at peak times).

There are several spaces in the CDS that can be used for teaching purposes: the main presentation space, the critical making lab, and the digitization lab. In addition, teaching activities such as small-group discussion and hands-on activities can take place in other areas of the space, using tables, couches, whiteboards, and so forth. Please note that the main presentation space is part of the shared space of the CDS, so silence is not guaranteed. For sessions that need more privacy, the two lab spaces are closed spaces, and each holds between 8–10 people. Both labs are equipped with Teams-enabled monitors and cameras, and support hybrid meetings.

We will send out a call for teaching space in the CDS midway through the previous semester. Teaching space is available for individual class sessions, and in rarer cases for the entire semester meeting of the course. Requests at other times of year will be considered on a case by case basis. Reservations for individual class sessions can also be booked by emailing the CDS coordinator: [email protected]
