FAQs
The CDS is located on the 3rd floor of Snell Library on Northeastern's Boston Campus.
The CDS is still in a soft launch period and is open only to CDS project members. Once the CDS is fully open, the space will be accessible from 9:00-5:00 Boston time and we look forward to welcoming visitors to attend events, make contact with CDS projects, and use the space for activities relating to digital scholarship. If you’re coming from outside the Northeastern University community, please contact us and we’ll be glad to arrange a visit! Individual projects may be open during more limited hours, so if you’re visiting a specific group please reach out to them directly.
The CDS as a whole can only be booked for special events by CDS staff and the library administration. Meeting spaces within the CDS can be booked by CDS affiliates. Project spaces can be booked by members of the project. Here are instructions on how to book spaces. For more information about space booking, please contact us.
Our two lab spaces are being equipped with computers with specialized software for OCR, text encoding, and a variety of digitization and computational tasks installed. We also have scanners and other digitization equipment. You can find a full listing on our Labs and Equipment page. The lab spaces and equipment are available to all CDS affiliates. Equipment can be booked but is also available for walk-in use. We are developing training materials that will be available in the labs.
We have a limited number of project spaces in the CDS, and they are typically allocated to long-term projects with project teams that meet regularly. We carry out a periodic review of space allocations to make sure that we’re using the space effectively and equitably. If you have a project that needs space, please contact us!
Keep an eye on the CDS Events page for announcements of upcoming workshops and training, and subscribe to the CDS email list or Slack channel to receive announcements directly. If there’s a particular topic you’re interested in learning about, please contact us!
Many of the projects in CDS have either SGA positions or hourly graduate or undergraduate positions. Job postings will be shared on our Opportunities page (coming soon).
